At the risk of sounding like wankers* there’s been demonstrable numbers of instances over the decades where, with hindsight, it’s been shown that our concepts or our work have been developed and presented or delivered between two and eight years ahead of their time. 2 THINK DIFFERENT
At MASTHEAD Design & Creative, we have an innate knack for extrapolating from and envisioning beyond the core elements of a brief to ask ‘What if?’ questions that challenge preconceptions and ‘limitations’ with a fresh approach – sometimes very 90-degrees ‘left field’! – which illuminates hitherto-unseen, not yet considered possibilities … we didn’t arrive at our ‘WOW!’ tagline without having heard it many, many times from clients and customers saying “Wow, I hadn’t thought of THAT!”
3 FUNCTIONAL AND FIT-FOR-PURPOSE
The foundation of almost all our design projects is in utility, functionality, practicality and longevity (supporting credibility, visibility and value-for-money) – if something doesn’t ‘work’ then it’s unlikely to register emotionally, deliver financially and risks diminishing or damaging a promise. (That’s why we always begin branding development in B&W – if a concept works in one-colour, grayscale and reverse, then it will work in full colour … but not necessarily the other way round.)
4 ENGAGE AND IMMERSE
Brands should be strong enough to be adaptable, playful and wear many outfits without dissolution of their recognition and core values; tweaks, twists and layers of meaning in logos that pass first glance unnoticed but leave a subliminal ‘hook’ prompt audience re-engagement. Similarly, at MASTHEAD Design & Creative we love maps for being luscious story-telling, immersive experiences of colour and fine detail – or instantly, compellingly and helpfully clear explanations of location, context and travel options: your customers and readers will thank you!
